Using models, foundry mechanics produce casting molds. Afterward, liquid metal is poured into the molds. Thus, a very precise workpiece is created. The tasks of a foundry mechanic (m/f/d/x) include cleaning, machining and inspecting the cast workpieces. Toolmakers (m/f/d/x) manufacture tools and molds made of metal or plastic. They produce press tools, injection-molding tools, punching tools and forming dies as well as press molds and embossing molds. The material is drilled, turned and milled. In addition to these manual methods, they also use CNC milling machines which they program themselves. Further, the tasks of the toolmakers also include the quality control of the finished tools after machining using measurement and test equipment as well as the maintenance and repair of the equipment and permanent molds.

In the in-house training workshop, the KSM Castings Group trains toolmakers (m/f/d/x) in the field of foundry technology in the discipline “die and mold making”.
